Kelly Ripa's Comment About the Possibility of a Female President Divides Fans
Kelly Ripa has some hot takes when it comes to the fate of the Oval Office.
According to the Live! With Kelly and Mark host, the future isn't female, as she believes the odds of the United States getting a female president anytime soon are slim to none.
Ripa, 52, discussed the topic during the latest episode of her Let's Talk Off Camera podcast, where she candidly admitted that she doesn't see a woman become POTUS in her lifetime.
"It's scary. It’s sad. It’s depressing. It’s demoralizing. it’s disheartening," she said of her grim prediction.
"And why? It’s that pesky thing—what’s it called again? A vagina," she added.
Fans didn't quite know how to receive Ripa's comments, with some internet users agreeing with her defeatist attitude.
"I sure hope that she's wrong. But (unfortunately) I don't think she is," one user wrote on Twitter.
"I agree with that. Even a lot of women object to a woman prez," someone else added.
Others thought that sitting vice president Kamala Harris is living proof that the country is progressing, as one person put it, "We already have a woman in the White House; VP Kamala Harris. We still need to break the POTUS barrier but we are getting oh so close!"
Another user insisted that Ripa is "still pretty young," so there may be some hope for a female president sooner than she thinks.
Also during the Wednesday, Aug. 9 episode of her podcast, the TV personality also talked about the challenges women have to face when working in politics, which she says goes "regardless of political affiliation."
"Women have to deal with so much bulls—in every facet of life," she asserted. "But when it comes to politics take that and put it to the 100th power."
She went on to say that women in politics, "have to be tough, but not too tough. They have to look good, but not too good. They can’t be emotional, but they can’t be cold. Or they’re too strong or not strong enough. Or what if she gets her period—will she launch a nuclear weapon?”
"I mean, it’s just the absolute crap that they have to deal with," she added.
