Kelly Slater Breaks Three Boards in One Surf Session at Massive Skeleton Bay (Clip)

As you probably already know, Kelly Slater is in Namibia.

It’s his first-time surfing the famed, mythical, sand-bottomed lefthander at Skeleton Bay, as we saw from the first clip that trickled in just a few hours ago.

As you probably also know, via various Instagram feeds (it’s a who’s who of surfing elite, and lesser-known tube-hunters down in Namibia right now), it’s been pretty dang big.

Big enough to rock Kelly, and break a couple boards during his day-long session.

In a clip from ZigZag, South Africa’s leading surf magazine, they caught up with Slater about the carnage at Skeleton Bay, which they’re calling “The Donkey”:

“Gnar gnar,” says Slater during a surf check.

“The Donk donked me yesterday. I had three broken boards in one session. First walk around, maybe about my third or fourth walk, then around the end of the day, around my seventh or eighth walk.

“Classic.”

Strider Wasilewski, WSL commentator and tube charger in his own right, who travelled to Namibia with Slater commented on just how heavy Skeleton Bay can be:

“Why, this is why… because u only live once, because you love it so much it’s all you think about, that’s why. 60 hrs of travel round trip, the craziest longest most barreling wave ever and a very satisfied, adrenaline filled soul! The freedom of the desert and the beat down of my body, the greatest equalizer ever, thank you surfing. BTW, this wave is really hard to ride and very heavy, I don’t recommend going unless you are in amazing surf shape and an excellent surfer!”

And now, the question is, will Slater show up for the Tahiti Pro? Stay tuned.
