Kerry Kennedy Just Shared a Stirring Reminder of Why the JFK and Bobby Kennedy Loved the Sea
This week, Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of Ethel and Robert F. Kennedy, posted a vintage photo of her father on Instagram, along with a poignant quote by her uncle, President John F. Kennedy, about the ocean.
"We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it - we are going back from whence we came," Uncle Jack," reads the caption.
"Love this photo of my father sailing in Hyannis Port."
The quote she included was from a speech Kennedy gave at a dinner for the America's Cup Crews in September of 1962, though she could have just as easily plugged in JFK's often-quoted ode to the Kennedy family compound on Cape Cod: "I always go to Hyannis Port to be revived, to know again the power of the sea."
This summer, Kerry has posted a number of vintage pictures of her family on Instagram, photographs often taken by the water, many of which she shared in honor of the 50th anniversary of the death of her father.
For example here's a photo of a number of Kennedy kids all on a sail boat:
And here's another of RFK and Ethel walking along the beach in Oregon:
The Kennedy family continues to return to Hyannis Port every summer for the 4th of July, and this year, they gathered for the wedding of RFK's grandson Bobby Kennedy III and former CIA officer Amaryllis Fox.
In true Cape fashion, the reception reportedly featured a clam bake.
