Embattled songstress Kesha walked the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday in what looks to be a traditional “Nudie suit” in a likely tribute to Bob Dylan.
The suit looks to be from Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors, which is known for its fancy western suits favored by the likes of Dylan, Elvis, and Gram Parsons. More recently, Jack White has been seen rocking Nudie-inspired looks.
It’s an appropriate sartorial choice, as Kesha performed Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe” on the Billboard Music Awards stage.
After an initial announcement that she would be performing, producer Dr. Luke and Kemosabe Records (her label) denied her permission to perform. However, in a statement to the Associated Press on Thursday, Kemosabe Records said it had reversed its earlier decision after Kesha reassured them she was not going to highlight their ongoing lawsuit onstage. Kesha and Dr. Luke have been at odds since she accused of him of drugging, sexually abusing, and emotionally tormenting her.
“Kesha’s performance on the Billboard Music Awards was always approved, in good faith. Approval was only suspended when Kemosabe learned Kesha was to use the performance as a platform to discuss the litigation,” the statement read.
