Kevin Bacon Recalls How a Valet Saved His Infant's Life
The 'One Way' actor recounted the story involving his son Travis while appearing on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' this week.
Kevin Bacon is looking back at one of his scariest parenting moments, which he says resulted in a valet saving his son's life.
While making an appearance on Thursday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the One Way actor, 64, opened up about his life with longtime wife Kyra Sedgwick, 57, including their early days of parenthood, which he claims didn't always go super smoothly.
Bacon told the late-night host about one particular story when the pair had just become parents after welcoming their son Travis Bacon back in June 1989.
"We knew nothing about raising a kid," he said about himself and Sedgwick, who were roughly 30 and 23, respectively, when they first had kids. He went on to explain the story from his son's early infant days, stating, "We were staying at a hotel, it was the Chateau Marmont here in L.A., which at that time was one of the few hotels that would allow us to bring the dog. We had this giant dog Jane with us."
"We had rented a car, and I don't know, I was scattered. I wasn't really thinking," he continued. "[I] pulled up to the valet at the hotel, jumped out of the car, slammed the door, cars still running, keys in the car, windows up, baby's still in the car."
After eliciting a roar of concerned "ooos" from the audience, the Footloose star went on to add that his son was only about four days old at the time, noting, "To say I lost my shit would be an understatement."
But the situation was quickly handled by a valet, who Bacon called, "an amazing, heroic dude," who, in just three seconds, wrapped a towel around his fist and punched through the window.
Bacon also said the valet's ability to punch the window and scoop Travis right out of the vehicle was "some superhero stuff right there."
"I probably wasn't the first jackass that ever did that I'm thinking," Bacon then joked to Kimmel, who asked if they ever sent the valet a thank you, or even an Edible Arrangement.
"To tell you the truth, I went back many many years and he was there, and I said 'do you remember this? And he said, 'Yeah,' and you know, we laughed about it and stuff."
"I would like to think I tipped him well," Bacon added, to which Kimmel replied, "You should've just given him the car."
Travis, who apparently owes his life to a valet at the Chateau Marmont in L.A., is now all grown up at 33 years old. Sedgwick and Bacon are also parents to daughter Sosie, 30.
