KFC Is Now Selling a Donut and Fried Chicken Sandwich If You're Up to the Challenge
To paraphrase the great thinker Joey Tribbiani from Friends, donuts? Gooood. Fried chicken? Goood. Donuts and fried chicken? Gooood. Though it may seem like a truly strange pairing, KFC announced Tuesday that it was testing out a donut and fried chicken sandwich in select markets.
The sandwich is absolutely what it looks like; it will feature a piece of fried chicken between two glazed donuts for $5.99. It's actually just one of two pastry/chicken combinations the chain is testing out. The other is a Fried Chicken & Donut Basket meal, which includes chicken on the bone or chicken tenders paired with one donut for $5.49. You can make it two donuts $7.49 if you're feeling up to the task. Just want a donut? That will run you $1.
You may be scratching your head at the idea of donuts and fried chicken together, but as KFC pointed out, the combo has been popular in places like Philadelphia, San Diego, and Portland in recent years. Plus, who doesn't love chicken and waffles? This trend just seems to take a sweet and savory combo to the next (fried) level. Plus, if we're still talking chicken sandwich wars (are we?), this seems like a major curveball.
If you're looking to give this one a try, it's available now if you live in the Norfolk/Richmond, Virginia, and Pittsburgh areas. It's just a test, but chances are if it's successful, you could be seeing this one in other places around the country soon. In the meantime, I guess you can MacGyver this one by getting a hot dozen from Krispy Kreme and a bucket of boneless chicken from KFC. You can't really go wrong with that!
