Khloé Kardashian slammed for 'Thin AF' post and making light of mental illness
Her character on The Good Place, Tahani, is famed for her shameless celebrity name-dropping. In real life, though, actress Jameela Jamil is calling out a big star for a very serious reason.
The boldfaced name in question is Khloé Kardashian, who recently raised eyebrows for posting a story on her app promoting hacks to “look thin AF in pics.”
The story didn’t sit well with Jamil, who has been outspoken on a number of issues, from body image to sexual harassment. The British star took to Twitter to call Kardashian’s post a “trap of pointless poison” which promoted “low self-esteem.” She added that posts like this spread the message that a woman’s appearance is more important than her accomplishments.
WTF Khloe? girls keep sending me this screen shot and saying it’s making them feel bad. Unfollow ANYONE who stirs low self esteem in you. Make Instagram a safe space for yourself rather than a trap of pointless poison. pic.twitter.com/DHOpVOhkAg

Don’t concentrate on school or work or achievements or your kids or your friendships or love… just make *sure* you look “THIN AF” in your edited Instagram pictures girls. That’s how to win life! ?♀?

Jamil’s fans chimed in, some accusing the Kardashians of “perpetuating harmful thinspo.”
The thing that is so frustrating about the Kardashians is that they try to play both sides of the fence. Simultaneously hopping on the “body positivity”/feminism bandwagon when it suits them financially, while perpetuating these harmful thinspo/“must always look HOT” ideas.

Can we PLEASE have more role models like you How much damage is this vacuous, empty, superficial culture having, where people are told continually that only a highly modified, filtered, photoshopped version of self is worthy #sowrong

LITERALLY!!!! I can't believe she feeds this bull 'good american' body equality and then posts stuff like this – double standards pic.twitter.com/YPeUlteWvf

Couldn’t agree more. We should be encouraging everyone to embrace their bodies and simply be the best version of ourselves. With such a large fan base it’s really disappointing to see posts like this which inevitably will be seen by impressionable followers.

(2/2) People treat you differently than they would if you were super thin. And I'm by no means obese (even though that's what the BMI tells me). Still, with getting all that shoved at you all day every day, how are you gonna escape from that?

Meanwhile, many people have pointed out that the reality star’s “Khlo-C-D Week” coverage of mental health topics could be seen as insensitive to those who have been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Kardashian has been criticized in the past for attributing her own preference for clean, organized spaces to OCD, in a gross simplification of a complex issue.
The rest of her story wasn’t much better. pic.twitter.com/9qbCdQMjwQ

OCD is a serious medical condition. So is infertility. You don’t have either, but you’re charging people money to read about it.

I like Khloe but this is just really wrong and so rude. OCD is a mental illness not a term to just use lightly.

ily khloe but please don’t make light of ocd it’s a lot more serious than just organizing/cleaning

to you, OCD means 'doing things thoroughly' or in an organized fashion. to me, OCD is a debilitating illness that i struggle to live with every day. i'm on my 5th medication and 4th round of therapy.
it's 2018. stop perpetrating stigma- it can be the difference btwn help & death— ell (@ell_kelll) March 9, 2018
Kardashian, who celebrated her baby shower over the weekend, has yet to respond to the criticism.
