Khloé Kardashian hasn’t looked at a scale in years: 'I think it's really unhealthy'
Khloé Kardashian has shared more insight into her fitness journey.
The Good American founder told InStyle how her relationship with her body and the gym has evolved over the years.
"When I first started [working out], I cared so much,” she told the outlet. “Maybe [it's] just being younger. I think you care about the scale. The scale Fs with you. I don't even look at a scale anymore. I think it's really unhealthy. I haven't in years. They're just numbers."
The reality star and mom of two explained that her 2016 divorce from ex-husband Lamar Odom is the reason she started this fitness journey.
”I'm sort of a control freak, but in life we can't control everything," she shared. "But the gym, what I put in it, I know I'm going to get out of it. And being a control freak — I'm proud of it — I love that I have that control. And then just the release.”
She added that she used to have an all-or-nothing mentality about fitness and eating healthfully.
“I used to be like, ‘OK, tomorrow, I'm cutting out all sugars, carbs, and I'm working out five days a week,’ and it was such an unrealistic goal that I was setting myself up for failure," she explained. The California-born celeb now sets more realistic goals for herself and said that working out enables her to make "smarter choices," like eating "a little better."
The Revenge Body host has previously spoken about feeling insecure in her own skin. After a bikini photo of the star was leaked in April 2021, she took to Instagram to explain why the unflattering image took a toll on her self-esteem, noting that she often sees her hard work in the gym go unrecognized by the public.
"For over a decade now in photos, every single flaw and imperfection has been micro-analyzed and made fun of to the smallest detail and I am reminded of them everyday by the world," she said at the time, per E! News. "And when I take that criticism to use as motivation to get myself in the best shape of my life and to even help others with the same struggles I am told I couldn't have done it through hard work and I must have paid for it all."
Despite being known for her discipline in the gym, the reality star has shared how challenging it has been to be compared to her sisters Kim and Kourtney Kardashian in the past.
"When the show first started, I was very secure. Very secure. And then, during the first couple seasons, I became insecure because of the public, um, opinions of myself," Kardashian told Andy Cohen in June 2021 during the Keeping Up With the Kardashians reunion. "Then I had, I think, a good run of being secure, and then, I think recently, I've become now insecure again. So I guess it just goes... You know, up and down."
When the host asked if she felt like Kim and Kourtney received preferential treatment because of the way they looked, Kardashian responded honestly.
"Oh, 100%," she replied. "We did so many photoshoots where they would receive racks and racks of clothes, and I was told by so many different stylists, I was given about two or three pieces of clothing, that's it, and not to worry 'cause I'll be in the background anyway. Like, I wouldn't be in the forefront. It would always be them two and me behind them. So, not even, it was never a question. It was a fact, and it was very blatant, as well."
