What's It Made Of?

The Lowlands Blanket comprises two layers: a super-soft and insulated quilted top side made of polyester and rayon, and a waterproof polyester base that's much more rugged and tarp-like. The blanket is about a quarter of an inch thick, weighs 5 pounds, and measures in at 78 inches long and 55 inches wide, making it perfect for picnics.

The blanket is much softer and more versatile than the competition. The quilted layer — available in blue, coral, or red — is coated with DWR, which is a durable, water-repellant finish. Basically, liquids bead up on its surface instead of sinking in, meaning that you won't have to worry if you accidentally spill your drink on it.

The dark gray polyester bottom is TPU-coated, so no matter how muddy or wet the ground is, water won't seep through and your butt will stay completely dry. This waterproof construction accounts for the Lowland's slightly steeper price point. In my opinion, the blanket is well worth it. The product has racked up hundreds of 5-star reviews from customers at DICK's Sporting Goods, Moosejaw, REI, and YETI, too.

Since it's waterproof on the outside and padded on the inside, the Lowlands blanket is the definition of an all-purpose blanket. It's built to last and can be used anywhere, no matter the terrain or weather conditions. It even has six loops on the corners and in the middle for staking it down at the beach or a campsite to prevent it from moving around or bunching up.

The Lowlands blanket has been crafted to repel burrs, dirt, and pet hair, so it's also an excellent buy for dog owners looking to keep their pup cozy while protecting the back seat in the process.

Why Do I Love It?

Like any other person, the pandemic has completely changed how I spend my free time. I used to socialize with loved ones indoors at bars and restaurants, I frequently went to the movies, and I attended concerts. Since I haven't been to these kinds of places in months, I've spent a lot more time outside. The Lowlands blanket has come in handy on countless occasions.

My significant other and I took our dog, Mika, to the park with the Lowlands blanket in tow. I love that it comes with a handy zippered carrying case that provided extra room for my Bluetooth speaker and some snacks.

When we were greeted by an overly excited English bull terrier at the dog park, I didn't mind one bit that he drooled on the blanket. I just poured a little water on it and it wiped clean. My German shepherd sheds like no other and one swift shake completely freed the blanket of her dark brown and black hair when it was time to leave.

I also took the blanket to the drive-in movie theater. To my surprise, there wasn't grass anywhere. Its soft, padded side was plenty comfortable after I laid the blanket on the gravel, and since it's impervious to dust and debris, I was able to shake it clean. I haven't taken it the blanket to the beach yet, but it kept me warm on a 40-degree evening while I was stargazing in the Texas hill country.

I can also attest to its washability. My dog got the blanket muddy after a hike, and I was able to toss the blanket in the washer and dryer with no issues whatsoever. The blanket (and its carrying case) came out perfectly clean, soft, and it didn't fade one bit.

The Final Word

The YETI Lowlands is a really good outdoor blanket — and with its steep $200 asking price, it should be! Thanks to its waterproof, ultra durable layer on the underside and the softer, much cozier layer on the flip side, the YETI Lowlands is an all-in-one blanket that's tailored for any adventure, rain or shine.
