Killers of the Flower Moon Becomes Second Biggest Opening Weekend for Scorsese

Scorsese's latest is finally out in theaters after a long festival run that began back in May at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

An adaptation of David Grann's book of the same name, Killers of the Flower Moon takes place in 1920s Oklahoma when oil is discovered under Osage Nation land and the Osage people are murdered one by one - until the FBI steps in to unravel the mystery.

It was a big opening weekend for the legendary director, with a $23 million domestic box office from 3628 theaters and a further $21 million coming in from international audiences. The cumulative $44 million makes for his second-biggest opening ever, as per Discussing Film.

Killers of the Flower Moon is a firm favourite among critics this year, who have scored it at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes from 304 reviews, proclaiming it to be "a true masterpiece" and "[An] engrossing, far-reaching opus".

Lily Gladstone's performance is being praised both by audiences and the industry. Spike Lee even says she has his vote at the Oscars.

The film also stars repeat Scorsese collaborators Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, as well as Jesse Plemons, Jon Lithgow, Brendan Fraser and Cara Jade Myers.
