Kim Kardashian's Makeup Artist Uses a $10 Jelly to Create Flawless Skin

If you’re reading this, you’re likely familiar with the contouring techniques makeup master Mario Dedivanovic (he is also a Laura Mercier ambassador) uses to create Kim Kardashian West’s out-of-this-world cheekbones—they are what put him on the map—but a how-to on the bright highlight he pairs with them that never seems to fade? Not so mainstream. As Refinery29 reports, the secret behind the 'round-the-clock radiance is much more accessible we’d ever think: a $10 bottle of jelly.

Sweat Effect Transparent Jelly by Kryolan ($10)—a formula that’s often used for heavy stage makeup (you can find it on film sets)—is what Mario calls his “little secret.” If you’re wondering how any type of jelly can be incorporated into your makeup routine, it’s much easier than you think.

For a starlet glow, Dedivanovic uses a damp BeautyBlender to tap a tiny bit of the jelly right on top of powder highlighter. This locks it in place without mattifying or dimming down the highlighter's radiance, and Dedivanovic says the jelly leaves your makeup looking like a second skin (unlike some finishing formulas). “The gel actually picks up the shimmer or metallic from the highlighter underneath and it still shines through,” he recently explained to his Master Class audience, adding that you can wear your powder highlighter underneath the jelly, but not the other way around. (He warns layering the powder over the jelly will get messy and you’ll end up having to re-do your makeup.)

So there you have it—the $10 secret to scoring a Kardashian glow that lasts all night. As for the rest of their lavish beauty routines, that we’re still trying to find drugstore dupes for.
