Kim Kardashian Has Been Declared One of GQ’s Men of the Year

GQ’s Man of the Year is…Kim Kardashian? Well, one of them at least.

Kardashian was named the magazine’s “Tycoon of the Year” because her massively popular, $4 billion shapewear brand, Skims, is starting a menswear line. The underwear was recently made the official undergarment of the NBA. Kardashian said she took on the sponsorship because men have similar body insecurities to women, even if they don’t admit to it, and she “wanted men to find out what all the hype is about.”

“Kim is the Michael Jordan of the influencer generation,” Skims co-founder Jens Grede told the outlet. “Many 19-year-olds who never watched Jordan play and don’t play basketball themselves wear Air Jordan sneakers every day. Maybe you don’t watch The Kardashians every single week, but you’re a Skims customer.”

The reality TV star is pictured on the cover in a pinstriped suit, holding a bag of Cheetos Puffs aloft as she licks the dust from her fingers. Throughout her profile, she’s pictured in a flowing evening gown and a business suit framed against a city’s dramatic skyline. In one snap, she’s designed to uncannily resemble her late father, lawyer Robert Kardashian, as she sits behind a desk in a fitted suit, her hair slicked tightly back.

In fact, it was Robert who loaned Kim his credit card to start her very first business, a clothing resale shop on eBay. Despite living a life of Riley, Kim’s father wasn’t about to let her reap profits on his dime. Whatever he put into the business, Kim had to pay back with interest.

“I’d work at my job and give him my paycheck,” Kardashian recalled to GQ.

Although not everyone gets an open line of credit from their dad, Kardashian said the experience taught her valuable lessons about respecting and saving money. She’s now passing that wisdom, which helped her grow a variety of fruitful endeavors, on to her four children whom she shares with Kanye West.

“I understand that it is not a normal life,” she admitted. “We’re never going to have a normal family life no matter what. As a parent, I want to protect them as much as I can.”

Kardashian was named Man of the Year alongside rapper and sneaker-maven Travis Scott, designer and filmmaker Tom Ford, and crowning megastar Jacob Elordi. Her namesake reality series, The Kardashians, drops new episodes every Wednesday on Hulu.
