When it comes to the public drama surrounding her divorce from Kanye West, Kim Kardashian is pretty much opting out. This would be a completely fair (and, TBH, emotionally healthy) choice under any circumstances, but Kim has four very good reasons for sticking to the personal policy—her and Kanye's kids, North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2.

Kim recently stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show (The Kardashians is premiering on Hulu in less than a month, so it's press tour season), where Ellen turned the discussion to the very public breakdown of Kimye (which has become essentially unavoidable in the celebrity news cycle, thanks to Kanye's public comments about everything from coparenting dispute to Kim's new relationship).

During the chat, Ellen praised Kim for how she's handled the #wholething, commenting it's great that Kim "protects" Kanye for the sake of their kids, in spite of, well, the #wholething. Kim credited her parents—Kris Jenner and her late father, Robert Kardashian—for modeling healthy coparenting after they split.

"I think that's just who I am and I always had such a good example in my mom and my dad and their relationship," she explained. "So I'm always just hopeful and no matter what goes on, it's the father of my kids. I'll always be protective. I always want my kids to just see the best of the best."

Of course, just because she has four amazing reasons to stick to this very healthy approach and grew up with a front row seat to a masterclass in how to do coparenting-after-divorce right doesn't mean that being the bigger person during the #wholething is easy.

"I just try to—as hard as it can be sometimes—I do try to ignore it and try to do whatever's best for the kids," she added. "Take the high road."

We honestly can't even imagine the difficulty of what Kim is going through, which makes the high-road-taking all the more impressive and laudable.
