From Harper's BAZAAR

  • Kim Kardashian rented out her family's former home from her childhood as a surprise gift for her mother, Kris Jenner, who turned 64 yesterday.

  • Kardashian also recreated the interior of the house and rented out all of her parents' old cars to add onto the nostalgia.

  • Jenner cried when she discovered the surprise and later commented on Kim's Instagram, "This was the most magical day I can remember... Kim you are an angel to all of us."

Despite all of those "The devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder" jokes, the famous momager is actually quite a softie. And daughter Kim Kardashian knew just how to bring out Jenner's sentimental side for her 64th birthday yesterday: She rented out their childhood home.

Kim set up an elaborate plan for the gift reveal, which she shared on Instagram. She only invited family and Jenner's closest friends of over 40 years to gather for lunch at a given address, but after they'd all arrived, she shared the real invitations, which listed the address of their former residence as the updated location. At that point, "tears filled the room," Kardashian explained. She even had video evidence of her mother reading the invites and starting to cry.

"I rented our childhood home," Kim wrote in her Instagram caption. "All of our memories live here especially with our dad. It’s where each Kardashian child was born and made us who we are."

The KKW Beauty founder really went all out for the surprise. She remade the table settings and wallpaper to recreate the set-up of their former kitchen, she rented every car her parents owned, and even remade their old license plates. Kim had kept the project a secret from her mother and sisters for weeks.

"This was the most special, nostalgic day of my life and we felt my dad’s presence enjoying this day with us!" she added. "I kept it together and didn’t cry the entire lunch even though I cried during the entire planning process. But at the end I went into my old bathroom, closed the door and cried so hard."

Kris commented on the post, expressing her gratitude over her daughter's thoughtful gift: "I can’t stop crying ?? this was the most magical day I can remember... Kim you are an angel to all of us ... I can’t express what this meant to me and I will now have this beautiful day to add to a lifetime of the most fabulous memories. I couldn’t bear for it to end ???? ?????"
