King Charles III addressed the United Kingdom for the first time on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, about the grief following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, just one day earlier at age 96.

Describing his "profound sorrow," Charles told the world in a pre-recorded message, "Throughout her life, Her Majesty the Queen, my beloved mother, was an inspiration and example to me and all our family. And we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family could owe to their mother for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example."
