King Charles III Smiles While Reading Sweet Get-Well Cards From Supporters

King Charles III is feeling the love.
Following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis earlier this month, he has received well-wishes from fans around the world, which have brought him comfort as he undergoes treatment. Buckingham Palace posted a video to the royal family’s Instagram account on Friday to express the king’s gratitude for the show of support.
The montage opens with Charles smiling and laughing as he reads a card, which features an illustration of a dog wearing an Elizabethan collar and has a lighthearted message: “King Charles, at least you don’t have to wear a cone!” The video cuts to footage of heaps of letters being poured out from sacks and sorted, followed by close-ups of a few handwritten notes.
Overlaid in white text is the message: “The Correspondence Team at Buckingham Palace has received more than 7,000 letters and cards from across the world. The King has been sent a selection in his daily red box of paperwork. Many share their own experiences with cancer. Others offer good wishes and advice for a speedy recovery. To everyone who took the time to write THANK YOU! As His Majesty has said, ‘Such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.’ ”
One of the excerpted notes reads, “I wanted to tell you I am thinking of you as you face your own diagnosis and treatment and send prayers and every good wish for a speedy recovery.”
Another reads, “Chin up, chest out, remain positive and don’t let it get you down. Trust me, it works, but the main thing is family.”
“Never give up. Be brave. Don’t push your limits. Get well soon!!” reads a third.
Last week, the king spoke to United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about the outpouring of support. “I have had so many wonderful messages and cards. It’s reduced me to tears most of the time,” he told Sunak.
This marked Charles and Sunak’s first in-person meeting since his medical news was revealed. The palace said in its initial announcement that Charles has postponed public-facing duties as he undergoes a schedule of regular treatments; he has, however, maintained State business and official paperwork as usual.
In the past couple weeks, Charles and Queen Consort Camilla have been staying at the Sandringham country estate, where they have appeared in public twice, seemingly in high spirits while attending Sunday church services.
