Kit Harington's Raw Reaction to Filming His Final 'Game of Thrones' Scene Will Make You Weep
HBO took Game of Thrones fans behind the scenes one final time with a two-hour documentary special, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch. The film documented the making of the final season of the show through the eyes of those behind the camera, from executive producer Bernadette Caulfield to husband-and-wife prosthetics team Barrie and Sarah Gower. It was an emotional ride for everyone saying goodbye to a job they devoted themselves to for years, but it (understandably) hit the man behind Jon Snow quite hard.
The documentary chronicled the last day on set for Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), and Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth); they filmed the scene from Episode 6 when Jon Snow fails to stop Grey Worm from killing the Lannister "traitors." After filming for the day ended, showrunner D. B. Weiss gave a speech, telling Harington, "your watch has ended, and it has been a hell of a watch," causing the actor to tear up.
In turn, Harington gave a touching speech of his own:
"I feel like my heart is breaking. I love this show, more than, I think, anything. It has never been a job for me. It's been my life, and this will always be the greatest thing I'll ever do and be a part of. And you have been, just, my family. I love you for it, and thanks so much."
The documentary also captured the final Season 8 table read, including Harington and Clarke's reactions to Jon killing Daenerys, and Emilia Clarke's final day on set (for Episode 3, "The Long Night," when Dany tells Jon, "the dead are already here").
