What to know before you go to Red, White & BOOM!
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The biggest Independence Day celebration in the Midwest: Red, White & BOOM! is set for July 3. Columbus will expect to see 400,000 visitors to enjoy the fireworks show and festivities. Here’s what you need to know before you go.
Where are the fireworks launched from?
The fireworks launch site is located within Genoa Park on the east side of COSI. The fireworks will be shot over the river.
Where to watch?
For Red, White & BOOM!, the best viewing spots to watch the fireworks include Bicentennial Park, Dorrian Green, Belle Street, Marconi Boulevard, Washington Boulevard and Civic Center. Spots are on a first come, first served basis. The earliest you can claim your spot is anytime after 6 p.m. on July 2. Anything placed beforehand will be removed.
If you aren’t able to make it out to watch the fireworks, NBC4 will air live coverage starting at 4 p.m. leading up to the fireworks show at 10 p.m. on NBC4, online at NBC4i.com, and streaming on our NBC4 app.
What can I bring?
Patrons are allowed to bring any coolers, but recommended that they are labeled with your name and cell phone number. Unattended coolers may be confiscated by Columbus Police. Food and drinks will also be available at concession stands.
What’s not allowed?
Alcoholic beverages, portable gas or charcoal grills, temporary pools, large furniture and generators are prohibited. Alcohol may be purchased and consumed along the Midway on Civic Center, Main Street, Belle Street and Washington Boulevard.
It’s also advised to keep any pets at home, as it can be a stressful place for dogs and other animal companions.
