That is correct, our favorite witches and wizards are getting back together to talk about all things Wizarding World while we sit back, relax, and drink some butterbeer.
So, when is it happening, who’s gonna be in it, and where can you watch? Get literally every single detail below.
The Harry Potter Special Is Airing January 1, 2022
It’ll be released on HBO Max (so make sure you steal someone’s log-in ASAP), and judging from the first full-blown trailer, it looks pretty fun not to mention super emotional:
Who’s Going to Be in It?
Thx for asking, HBO actually already shared a mini teaser with alllll the names that will take part. Here’s a quick list:
Daniel Radcliffe
Rupert Grint
Emma Watson
Helena Bonham Carter
Robbie Coltrane
Ralph Fiennes
Jason Isaacs

FYI, J. K. Rowling—who has gotten backlash from fans and cast alike for her inexcusable anti-trans comments—is not scheduled to appear, per Variety. However, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will include archival footage of her speaking about the movies.
Where/When Was It Filmed?
Back in November, The Sun reported that Warner Bros. wanted to film ASAP (as soon as that month), with production taking place at the their Studio Tour in London.
The Cast Members Are Being Paid a Ton of Money
According to a source who spoke to The Sun before the reunion was officially green-lit, the studio “offered big money to the cast to reunite,” and while “many of the actors have moved on…the movies launched them to superstardom. They all have lots of fond memories from their time filming together. Everyone is hopeful it will happen.”
What Should We Expect?
Apparently, the reunion will involve the cast recreating some of Harry Potter’s most famous scenes, including the Yule Ball and boarding the Hogwarts Express. And if you’ve been to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, you know most of those sets are already built and ready to go, which means all execs need to make this work is the cast’s okay.
As Warner Bros. exec Tom Ascheim put it in a statement, “This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon—from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.”
