Koa Rothman and Friends Feel Like Groms Surfing Giant Beach Break in Hawaii

Over the weekend, the North Shore got slammed by huge surf.

Beachfront homes got thrashed, tourists were swept out to sea, and surfing heavyweights scored huge bombs.

While the North Shore's most iconic surf breaks like Waimea Bay, Pipeline, Rocky Point, and Sunset usually get all the attention, there's other spots nestled in between that offer opportunities for less traditional surf sessions.

Ke Iki shorebreak is one of those surf spots.

And Koa Rothman and friends, including Nathan Florence and Eli Olson, grabbed some sponges and had some fun.

Rothman posted the video above over the weekend and titled it:

"Wild Giant Keiki ShoreBreak with Friends."

The video opens with Rothman pointing out that  "just about every spot is blown out and brown."

"The waves suck," he says

So what's a surfer to do?

Go down to Ke Iki shorebreak with the old "grom squad" of course. Bodysurf, boogie board, and get body slammed by the shorebreak.

F*ck around like a grom, basically.

And that's what they do.

"I'm so excited, I feel like a grom," Rothman says.

For anyone who hasn't been to the North Shore, Ke Iki is a stretch of beach on the western side of Pipeline.

When it's flat in the summer, it's the epitome of paradise. Fine white sand and crystal clear turquoise water with the Waianae Mountain Range as the backdrop makes it a tropical paradise.

But in winter or anytime with bombing swell, it's a different story.

Pounding shorebreak, exposed razor sharp rocks, and sometimes, an insane current.
