GREEN BAY — A new restaurant offering Japanese cuisine opened this month in Ashwaubenon and another is still in the works in Green Bay.

Koi Poke Ramen opened earlier this month at 2101 S. Oneida St., next to Buffalo Wild Wings in the former spot of Moe's Southwest Grill. The other restaurant, Koi Ramen, at 1593 W. Mason St., in Green Bay, is still in the works. Yongzhan Wu and Quanyou Yu, the owners of both, said Koi Ramen will take longer because they are still waiting on permits from the city.

"The permits are now done in Madison," Yu said. "So that's why it's taking longer."

Yu said he doesn't know when they will be able to open Koi Ramen, which besides Ramen noodles, will offer sushi as well. They signed a lease for 10 years and a liquor license was approved last month.

"We still need to install a kitchen hood," he said.

However, for those eager to try the noodles and other Asian dishes, Koi Poke Ramen is available. Wu and Yu are both from China, but they have over 10 years' experience in the Japanese food industry.

"We love Japanese food and we worked in restaurants for a long time," Wu said. "We want to share our love (for the food) and hope people love it, too."

They both came to the United States a decade ago, but moved to Green Bay just a little over a year ago. Yu have other restaurants, including a Koi Ramen & Sushi in Colorado.

He said Green Bay represents a good opportunity and expects the restaurants to be successful.

Koi Poke Ramen offers the Japanese noodles, but also other Asian dishes and appetizers like spring rolls, fried rice and dumplings.

The restaurant is open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday trough Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
