Krispy Kreme reigns supreme when it comes to the classic glazed donut. This Friday, June 7, 2024, is National Donut Day. Who created this glorious holiday you might be asking? The Salvation Army. The organization first established the holiday in 1938 in honor of the “Donut Lassies” who served donuts to American troops as a sweet treat and to boost morale. You can thank them for the popularity of donuts today. Prior to the war, donuts weren’t common in the U.S. and only gained popularity due to the soldiers who had returned from overseas.

Krispy Kreme is celebrating the holiday by offering a free donut on National Donut Day to customers that visit their stores or drive-ins — as long as they aren’t “special” or limited-edition ones. You can also get a dozen of their glazed donuts for just $2 to share with your friends and family. (Or keep them for yourself. We’re not judging.)

The iconic country sensation partnered with Krispy Kreme to release Dolly’s Southern Sweets Collection.
