Krispy Kreme expands to McDonald’s

Bring on the doughnuts! In March, Krispy Kreme announced its new partnership with McDonald’s, and fans are excited to try the popular sweet treat.

“The top request we receive from consumers, every day, is, ‘please bring Krispy Kreme to my town.’” said Krispy Kreme President and CEO Josh Charlesworth in a press release. “Partnering with McDonald’s on a national scale will provide our fans and doughnut lovers unprecedented daily access to fresh doughnuts and the joy that is Krispy Kreme.”

Doughnuts will hit the golden arches in participating Chicago locations starting on October 15, and Krispy Kreme plans to expand to 1,000 more locations by the end of 2024. By the end of 2026, the partnership hopes to reach 12,000 more McDonald’s locations nationwide.

Even though McDonald’s customers in Chicago are the only ones to indulge in the new partnership right now, Krispy Kreme still wants fans across the country to be able to celebrate. That’s why from October 10 to 14, Krispy Kreme is offering guests a free classic glazed doughnut when they show a digital or paper receipt from a McDonald’s order placed in the same time frame.

The offer is only valid at participating locations for four days, but it can give doughnut lovers a glimpse of the upcoming collaboration. “Having Krispy Kreme doughnuts under the Golden Arches is golden for our fans. We’re excited to celebrate by giving our guests who also visit a McDonald’s a free Original Glazed doughnut,” said Charlesworth.

The doughnuts will be delivered fresh daily to the participating Chicago locations with three of the most popular flavors available while supplies last. According to a press release from Krispy Kreme, the three flavors are:

  • The iconic Original Glazed Doughnut: A melt-in-your-mouth doughnut covered in Krispy Kreme’s signature glaze. The doughnut that started it all.

  • The Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles Doughnut: A chocolatey twist on the original, dipped in chocolate icing and covered in rainbow sprinkles.

  • The Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled Doughnut: Made with a light, fluffy dough and filled with a smooth Kreme filling, then dipped in chocolate icing.

No cost information has been shared yet, but Krispy Kreme currently sells individual doughnuts for $2.99.

Fans' reactions to the partnership

Krispy Kreme recently shared a photo to their Instagram announcing their partnership with McDonald’s, and the fans have a lot of mixed thoughts.

“My two favs first my meal and with a sweet treat Krispy Kreme donut,” one person commented.

Another excited person wrote, “Krispy Kreme will be at McDonald’s  I’ll have to go even more often now.”

Others were skeptical and would get their doughnuts from Krispy Kreme itself instead of trusting McDonald’s with baked goods.

Someone else wrote, “The quality of everything McDonald’s is really bad. If we want a KK donut, we are better off going to KK. "
