Kristen Stewart Breaks Cannes Rule and Wears Flats
Some rules were made to be broken, especially sexist rules about the type of shoes that can be worn on the red carpet. Just two years ago, the organizers of Cannes Film Festival imposed a few new restrictions for participants-no selfies and no flat shoes. This is part of a strict formal dress code that all men must wear tuxedos and all women must wear high heels. The festival hasn't become synonymous with glitz and glamour for no reason.
This year Kristen Stewart is a juror at the legendary film festival, along with Cate Blanchett, Ava DuVernay, Lea Seydoux and a host of international directors-which means she's been present at all the premieres and many parties as well. While Stewart's been playing along with this silly shoe rule for the first few days, this is a twelve day festival, and it is safe to say, she has had it.
The actress first started to crack four days ago at the premiere of Spike Lee's Blackkklansman. During the red carpet procession, Stewart actually removed her black pointed-toe Christian Louboutin pumps and continued to make her way up to the theater barefoot.
They said no flats, but they didn't say no shoes at all. Good thinking KStew.
Stewart took her rebellion one step further though last night for the premiere of Un Couteau Dans Le Couer (Knife + Heart). She went for a borrowed-from-the-boys look-pairing a Chanel black satin tuxedo-inspired coat, a midriff-baring white shirt and satin pants with black flat loafers. No she didn't try to wear dainty flats or crystal embellished sandals, she wore menswear-inspired shoe. Well if the men can wear them, then why can't Stewart? She clearly has no time, and a not a care for your sexist rules, Cannes Film Festival.
KStew is going to do what KStew wants to do.
