Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel Are Co-Hosting a 'Wicked' TV Special
Everyone's favorite good witch/bad witch duo is back.
That's right, Broadway fans: Wicked in Concert, a TV special based on the original musical, will air August 29 at 9PM ET via PBS, PBS.org, and the PBS Video App.
The "popular" musical has cast a spell on audiences since its debut in 2003, and its highly anticipated return to the stage after the Covid pandemic is slated for September 14. Inspired by the Wizard of Oz franchise, Wicked is the fifth longest-running musical in Broadway history. The gravity-defying musical follows the unlikely friendship between Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked in Concert, co-hosted by original Wicked stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, is a celebration of the end of the show's 16-month hiatus. The special event will feature fan favorite musical numbers like "The Wizard and I," "Defying Gravity," "Popular," "Wonderful," "No Good Deed," "For Good," and "As Long As You're Mine."
Musical director Luke Frazier will also be partnering with the American Pops Orchestra to create never-before-heard arrangements for the special broadcast. The concert will be filmed in multiple locations including New York City, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
Others featured in the star-studded cast directed by Baayork Lee include Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Nettles, Ariana DeBose, Rita Moreno, Gavin Creel, Ali Stroker, Stephanie Hsu, Amber Riley, and Gabrielle Ruiz. Catch them all when you see Wicked in Concert this month!
