Kroger Is Recalling Varieties of Frozen Fruit Across Multiple States
Another day, another recall. This time though, those who shop at Kroger-brand stores are the ones who are at risk. According the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Kroger is recalling four of its store-brand frozen fruit products across multiple states due to potential listeria contamination.
The recall notice indicates that Oregon-based company Townsend Farms. Inc. is voluntary recalling the frozen fruit products that includes mango chunks provided by the SunOpta (Sunrise Growers) brand. The product in question was distributed to a list of Kroger-brand stores including Baker's, Dillons, Food 4 Less, FoodsCo, Fry's, Gerbes, Jay C, Mariano's, Metro Market, Pay Less, Pick n' Save, Ralphs, Ruler and Smith's. Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia were the states that received the products.

The voluntary recall — which notes that the products were distributed from November 6, 2022 to March 16, 2023 — includes Private Selection's 48-ounce Tropical Mango Chunks, 16-ounce Strawberry, Mango & Pineapple Blend, 48-ounce Classic Fruit Medley and the 48-ounce Blueberries, Strawberries & Mangoes. While the products were sold a while back, the "best if used" by dates range from April 30, 2024 to July 18, 2024, so there is concern that consumers may still have the potentially affected product still in their freezers. While no illnesses have been reported in association with the recall to date, Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in frail or elderly people, young children and Those with compromised immune systems are also at risk. Short-term symptoms can include severe headaches, nausea, high fevers, stiffness, abdominal pain and diarrhea as well as miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Customers have been urged to check their freezers for the affected product and to discard of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Refunds can also be requested by calling Kroger Customer Connect at 800-632-6900, Option 1, Monday through Friday, 7 am-midnight, EST. and both Saturday and Sunday from 7 am-9:30 pm., EST.
