PARSONS, Kan. — Labette Community College is inviting you to help celebrate regional art.

The school’s “Hendershot Gallery” is currently showcasing the Regionalists and Friends exhibit.

The work featured focuses on artists from the Midwest who showcase rural life during the 1930s and 40s.

All of the work being displayed is part of the school’s collection, but has never before been shown as a grouping.

“Putting together work like this is quite remarkable, things Grant Wood, to Thomas Hart Benton, who’s a regional favorite of southwest Missouri, who had, you know ripple effects in the art world, who trained Jasper Johns and worked at Kansas City Art Institute,” said Burt Bucher, director of Hendershot Gallery.

“Not all community colleges have this type of gallery space, not all community colleges have the caliber of art and art education that we are able to provide, and so it does set us apart,” said Lindi Forbes, executive director of LCC Foundation & Alumni Association.

The Hendershot Gallery is open for viewing Monday through Thursday from eight in the morning through six in the evening.
