Lafitte Park in Abbeville now open to public
ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY)– The wait is over, just in time for the Father’s Day weekend; Lafitte Park on South John Hardy Drive is open to the public.
Mayor Roslyn White said the park allows fishing at the fishing pier, and walking trails with the new enhanced accessibility features. The dog park is not open yet. White said they are planning to move the dog park to an area with more trees so there’s more shade.
“That’s going to take a little more time to get that back in place,” White said.
However, people are welcome to bring their furry friends along, as long as they are on a leash at all times. Also, remember to pick up after your dogs and dispose of the waste properly.

“We invite the public to come out and use the new fishing pier and we just ask that you fish responsibly and leave no sign of being there. Make sure you take your litter with you. We want to protect our environment and don’t catch more fish than you are supposed to because you are subject to wildlife and fisheries,” White said.
The park is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
