LatinxFest in Athens celebrates community and culture with families, food and fun

Now in its 15th year, the annual LatinxFest event is gearing up for a full day of performances, kids' games, food and more in celebration of the Athens area immigrant community's contributions to the city's culture. Scheduled to take place on 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, LatinxFest will be set up on Washington Street in downtown Athens between Pulaski Street and Lumpkin Street. The event is free and open to the public.

In addition to the day-long lineup of live music, dancing, food vendors and information booths, LatinxFest has expanded its kids' activities this year with a scheduled list of games that are organized into one-hour time slots. As reflected in the festival's butterfly imagery, LatinxFest co-coordinator Audey Lee told the Banner-Herald that the theme of the 2024 event is hospitality as a symbol of embracing migration.
