Laura Dern brought her mom to the 2020 Oscars on Sunday.
The Marriage Story actress is the daughter of famed actors Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern.
Fans freaked out when the saw the mother-daughter duo on the red carpet, with some even saying they didn't realize Laura and Diane were related.
Twitter was instantly abuzz the moment that Laura Dern stepped on the 2020 Oscars red carpet with her mom, Diane Ladd, as her date. The mother-daughter looked incredible, of course, but some fans hadn't even realized that Laura and Diane were related:
People might have been surprised to find out Diane was Laura's mom, but the Marriage Story actress actually comes from a very famous family...
So, who is Laura Dern's mom, Diane Ladd?
Laura Dern was born to Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern, on February 10, 1967. Both Diane and Bruce (who divorced two years after Laura was born) are actors, but Diane is perhaps best known for her roles in movies such as Rambling Rose and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Like her daughter, Diane has also been nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award in the past — three times, in fact. She received an Oscar nomination for her role in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore in 1975, Wild at Heart in 1991, and Rambling Rose in 1992.
Laura actually starred alongside her mom in Rambling Rose, and she was nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role award that year, as well. This was the first time that a mother-daughter duo had been nominated for the same movie in the same year. But interestingly, Laura says her parents didn't want her to go into the family business at first.
"They didn't want me to [become an actor]," Laura told Sterling K. Brown in a November interview for Variety. "My mom discouraged, even. I mean, I think because as a woman in the film industry, she was worried for me, especially as a child... She was terrified for me and protective and a lioness, which was great to be raised by. And my dad, I think, assumed I'd find something else interesting."
Of course, Laura went on to become an actor anyway — a decision that clearly paid off. And today, she credits her famous parents for inspiring her in her career.
"My parents are incredibly fearless, beautiful actors, and I watched them be fearless in areas and fearful in areas," she told Variety.
