Lauren Akins just got the best mommy cut
Lauren Akins has a newborn baby and a whole new look. Just a few weeks after giving birth to daughter Ada James on Aug. 12, Akins brought the kids to the salon to watch mommy get a makeover.
Akins cut off over a foot of hair at the Dry House Salon in Nashville, and the photo of her daughter Willa Gray holding on to her no-longer-attached ponytail is going viral on Facebook.
“Willa Gray got into my scissors this morning hahah jk. We just had a day date at @thedryhousenashville and Ali chopped over a FOOT off my hair #mamaneededlesshair #ifeelfreeeeeee @pantene my excess hair is coming your way!,” she captioned her photo.
The salon even shared a before and after picture of Akins smiling her way through a transformation that took her hair from almost waist-length to just below her shoulders.

Akins will be donating her hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths initiative, which creates free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer. The ponytail is actually part of the donation process — women cut their hair with ponytail intact and ship it to the donation center.
Fans are appreciative of Akins’s new look and her good heart. “I’ve done the @pantene program twice!!! Love them! And good for you for taking a day to yourself and giving to a great cause!” wrote Stefanie Feinstein on Facebook. “Pantene is the only place to donate!!! What an inspiration you are to everyone in need to a hair piece” agreed Sharee Hansen Seagren.
Others can relate to the “Mama needed less hair” reason for chopping it off. “Loved your beautiful long hair. Figured now that you have 2 little ones you’d eventually cut it. So glad you are donating it. Still looks beautiful,” commented Laura Charles Kaufman. “So true that once you have babies, you cut your hair. Looks beautiful!” said Lindsey Stroop.

Akins may have a shorter ponytail for her “happy (& tired, but mostly happy) little family” to tug on, but she’s still one cute mom.
