Lauren Hutton posed for a Cuup bra campaign at 78.
The veteran model wore a sheer mesh style bra and matching underwear, paired with an oversized button-down.
“I never wore bras until I was 50,” she said.
Finding a comfortable, supportive bra can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack—which is why Lauren Hutton didn’t wear one for most of her adult life. But that’s changed. Recently, the 78-year-old wowed fans with a sultry lingerie picture on Instagram, debuting her new partnership with lingerie company, Cuup.
“I never wore bras until I was 50,” she recently told Vogue. “I didn’t need them. Around 50—or maybe it was 47—I got a hold of an underwire bra, I think in Paris. And I picked one up, and I put one on, and I suddenly looked 30.”
Since then, the 78-year-old has had an on-again, off-again relationship with the undergarment. “Around 60, I started taking them off in the backs of cabs, covertly, so the drivers couldn’t see. I’d unsnap them, pull one shoulder out, and stuff them in my purse,” she recalled. “But ever since then, since 60 or maybe 57, I had been looking for a decent bra, and I couldn’t find one.”

Then she was introduced to Cuup bras, a basic, no-frills design that she said looked “like the first Neutra buildings,” and were “smooth as a silkworm.” She liked them enough to start wearing bras again, and even joined a brand campaign—she is a veteran model, after all. But she was admittedly nervous to shoot such vulnerable photos. (Spoiler alert: they’re incredible, and feature Hutton posing in a mesh Plunge style with matching panties, layered with an open button-down.)
“Those images can be so lurid, especially when you’re 422 [years old],” she joked. But she was comforted by the fact that the photographer, Alexandra Nataf, was a close friend. The photos turned out beautifully, and people loved that Cuup chose Hutton for the shoot.
“What a natural beauty! ??????,” one person commented on Cuup’s Instagram. “Absolutely stunning!????,” another added. “This is 78 ??,” someone else wrote.
Having worked for Revlon for years and walked catwalks for major designers like Valentino and Tom Ford, Hutton provides a welcome representation for people who choose to age naturally.
Earlier this year, she told Harper’s Bazaar that she once told a photographer she’s “not going to try and look younger.” She also said she doesn’t really have a skincare routine other than washing her face with soap and water, and she told People in 2019 that she tried Botox, but didn’t like it.
“I jumped back when I saw myself because I had an eyebrow that looked like the Wicked Witch,” she recalled. “I’ve let go that I look like a miniature Shar-Pei. The wrinkles are going to be there and they really are the badges of your life.”
