Lay’s is launching a special new potato chip flavor that seems perfect for summer, though it will only be available for a short time.
The new chips are being advertised as having a “zesty” and “rich” tomato-based flavor profile, and will be available as a limited Lay’s summer release.
“Yayyyyy!!! My mouth is watering in anticipation,” one fan said after food blogger Markie Devo previewed the chips on Instagram. Another fan said they would “absolutely” be interested in the flavor if the snack has a similar taste to SunChips’ Garden Salsa chips.

The new flavor in question is called Lay’s Salsa Fresca. An image of the red chip bag that Devo shared with fans showed a bowl of salsa pictured sitting on top of a small yellow napkin on the bag’s top right corner. In the image, a chunk of tomato, a piece of sliced jalape?o and half of a lime also rested on the yellow napkin beneath the salsa bowl.
A full jalape?o was pictured on the bottom left corner of the bag beside two additional tomato chunks and another piece of sliced jalape?o. The bottom right corner of the bag previewed its contents, appearing to show the potato chips reddened by the tomato flavoring.
The new flavor arrives on the heels of another announcement in which Lay’s declared that it is bringing back four fan-favorite flavors as part of Flavor That Hits Home, a promotional campaign inspired by American regions “known for their signature plates and flavors.” Lay's Kettle Cooked Lime & Cracked Pepper flavor is available nationwide for a limited time, while Lay's Crispy Taco, Lay's BLT Sandwich and Lay's Fried Pickles with Ranch are temporarily on sale in areas that inspired their flavors, according to a March 27 press release.
Lay’s is also bringing back another limited flavor for the summer that first launched in 2023. Lay’s Cuban Sandwich chips are expected to be available soon at all stores that stock the brand, according to Devo.
