Learn more about the home-buying process during a free workshop in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK — The Battle Creek Area Association of Realtors and several community partners are inviting the public to learn more about the home-buying process during a free workshop this month.

The homeownership workshop will take place Tuesday, July 23 at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 485 N. Washington Ave. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation to follow at 6 p.m.

"Purchasing a home can be one of the most important financial decisions a person can make in their lifetime," BCAAR officials wrote in a news release. "Whether you are a first-time homebuyer or have been out of the housing market for a while, attend this event to learn about the home-buying experience and what to expect throughout the process."

Topics that will be covered during the free workshop include:

  • The home buying process start to finish

  • How much house can you afford?

  • Steps to build or repair credit

  • Down payment myths (could be as little as 3%)

  • Types of loans
