On July 13, southwest Missourians of all ages can find many of the thousands of ways to support our community. The History Museum on the Square is hosting the first Community Service Fair on the Square at the Park Central Square.

From 10 a.m. to noon, visitors to the downtown square will be able to connect with more than 30 local charitable and nonprofit organizations. Each organization will have an information booth where people can learn about what the organizations do and how they can help.

This service fair is the third event in the museum’s Civics on the Square: Civics Summer Series. Each month this summer, the History Museum hosts all-ages events focused on one of four pillars of democracy: citizenship, leadership, service and legacy. Families are invited to these events to spark inspiration and connect with the community all summer long.

"Service is a part of who we are as a society. There are thousands of ways to make a difference in your own community, to get involved, and to help others in our communities everyday,” said Jill Hodge, civics education coordinator at the History Museum on the Square. “We hope the Community Service Fair on the Square will inspire active citizenship and community involvement.”

“Our goal with the Community Service Fair on the Square is to bring people together and showcase the incredible work being done by local organizations,” said Sean FitzGibbons, executive director of the History Museum on the Square. “I like to think of it as a ‘farmers market’ for nonprofit volunteerism, where community members can explore a variety of ways to get involved and make a difference throughout the year.”

The Community Service Fair on the Square is a great opportunity for students who need community service hours, adults who want to get connected to meaningful opportunities, or anyone who wants to create a significant impact in our community. No registration is required.

Swag bags will be available for the first 100 attendees.
