LeBron James' Son Bronny Suffers Cardiac Arrest During Workout
Bronny James, the eldest son of basketball legend LeBron James, was reportedly hospitalized after suffering a cardiac arrest during a workout.
"Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest," a spokesperson for the family told TMZ. "Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital."
According to the outlet, a 911 call was made around 9:26 a.m. on Monday, July 24, from the University of Southern California's Galen Center, where the college regularly hosts basketball games and practices, and the 18-year-old was reportedly unconscious at the time emergency responders arrived.
However, the official statement suggested that Bronny is now on the road to recovery: "He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update the media when there is more information."
"LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes," the spokesperson concluded.
Bronny is the eldest of LeBron and wife Savannah's two kids and is expected to continue in his father's footsteps as a career NBA player. Before he committed to the USC Trojans, Bronny was a McDonald's All American during his senior year of high school at Sierra Canyon and competed in the slam dunk competition showcase this past March.
In addition to Bronny, LeBron and Savannah also share a 16-year-old named Bryce Maximus.
As other outlets have already reported, this is the second time in the last year that the USC medical staff has responded to a men’s basketball player suffering cardiac arrest during practice. Trojans' center Vince Iwuchukwu collapsed during a practice last summer and had to be revived by USC athletic trainers. He made a full recovery and returned to the basketball court six months later.
