Lee County Master Gardeners to host Fall Garden Day this weekend
TUPELO — Lee County Master Gardeners will host their annual Fall Garden Day event Saturday in Verona.
The morning will kick off with a short presentation on fall garden care by Master Gardener Donna Lee at 9:15 a.m. at the pavilion. Other presentations at the pavilion include a talk on fall container garden ideas by Master Gardener Jenny Smothers at 10:30 a.m. and rose care for fall by Master Gardeners and certified rosarians Lee Pryor Caldwell and Merrell Rogers.
Featured speakers for the day are Dr. Eddie Smith of Mississippi State University Extension and Dr. Chris Cooper of the University of Tennessee-Memphis Extension.
Smith, host of "Southern Gardening," will discuss landscaping with wildflowers at 9:30 a.m. and insect pests of ornamental plants at noon in the auditorium. Cooper, host of PBS's "The Family Plot," will discuss pollinators at 10:45 a.m. in the auditorium.
Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a guided garden tour at 10 a.m.
Other activities include a scarecrow trail, plant sale, garden vendors and children's activities like pumpkin decorating.
Fall Garden Day will be hosted at the North Mississippi Research & Extension Center at 5421 Highway 145 South in Verona from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.
