Leighton Meester on Returning to Gossip Girl: "Never Say Never"

Leighton Meester isn't ruling out a return to the world of Gossip Girl. The 35-year-old actress, who played Blair Waldorf on the show from 2007-2012, opened up in a new interview that she's been loving the reboot.

Would she ever reprise her role, Fox 5 New York asked her. "I don't know maybe," Meester replies, "I will say... I've watched the new one, I do think it's really awesome."

"I'm happy for them," she continued. "I feel like they're doing a whole new thing… and I don't think that we don't fit in but—or I can only speak for myself—I don't feel like I don't fit in."

Meester isn't the only one to say she's open to the possibility. Chase Crawford has said he would be interested, saying in 2019, "If there’s an opening in the future for doing a cameo, I would definitely be open to it. The show was a big part of my life and was really special. I loved everyone on it, from the cast to the crew. We were a real family."

Season one of the Gossip Girl reboot on HBO Max didn't explicitly feature any cameos from the original series. Creator Joshua Safran told the Daily Beast, "The decision was: Let's get season 1 under our belt, and should we get season 2, we'll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines."

Meester added in her interview "I feel really good sort of sitting back and leaving it to the kids, to the young, new generation, they're doing so awesome." Yet, she ended, "That's all I'll say, for now, you know. You never say never."

Fingers crossed that Blair Waldorf will one day grace our television screens again.
