Lena Dunham apologizes to Rose McGowan after she 'missed the mark' with Harvey Weinstein tweet
Lena Dunham has been one of the most outspoken stars in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, but she admits she missed the mark with a recent tweet.
Dunham, 31, wrote an op-ed for the New York Times, titled, “Harvey Weinstein and the Silence of Men,” and has been calling on actors to condemn the Hollywood producer, who has allegedly sexually harassed and assaulted women for decades.
Men in Hollywood, it’s time to step up for us. https://t.co/ygKPXCK0BJ

However, the comedic actress may have attempted to be too light when praising George Clooney, who just spoke out against Weinstein. The Girls star shared an article from Jessica Chastain, where Clooney called Weinstein’s behavior “indefensible” and “disturbing on a whole lot of levels.”
She retweeted with the comment, “Ironically, guys, speaking out against Harvey Weinstein only makes you more sexually irresistible (consensually, of course).”
Dunham was immediately blasted by social media users for the since-deleted tweet, including by actress and Weinstein victim Rose McGowan.

Dunham responded to McGowan on Twitter.
I’m sorry I missed the mark. I won’t try to explain myself but simply say I hope you feel the love from me and many fellow assault survivors

Not too long after, more backlash ensued.
Why do men have to be seen as sexually irresistible by women to do the right thing? Do the right thing without expecting anything in return?

You ALWAYS miss the mark, Lena. It’s not a one off, it won’t be the last time, just do yourself a favor and think before you speak.

socialism will always rule, feminism will always rule, and your “jokes” will always suck

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to defend your statements, lady.

The actress deleted her tweet and explained her reasoning.
FYI I delete threads when they become unproductive garbage towns, but it doesn’t mean I don’t find myself hilarious/adorable!

McGowan has yet to respond to Dunham’s apology, but perhaps that’s because she has bigger fish to fry… like Ben Affleck.
