  • Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones, will miss the Season 8 premiere tonight in New York City because she's sick.

  • The actress posted an Instagram selfie and explained that she's "gutted" and "heartbroken" that she won't be around to celebrate the final season with her castmates.

  • Game of Thrones Season 8 officially airs on April 14 on HBO.

The Game of Thrones cast is gathering in New York City for the Season 8 premiere tonight, but a major star, Lena Headey (AKA Cersei Lannister) is missing in action. Now, the last time Cersei skipped an event everyone else was attending, she was hiding away to blow up the Sept of Baelor with wildfire (in the Season 6 finale). But Headey assures her reason for absence is much less violent than that.

The actress explained in an emotional Instagram post that she wasn't able to make the trip due to sickness. She announced the news with a selfie this afternoon and wrote in the caption:

"Gutted. Heartbroken and fucked off, still doesn’t cover my disappointment at not being able to travel to NYC for our final prem tonight. I fucking hate being sick and the timing of this is a shit bag. But .. S8 is the tits and so are all my cast mates and crew mates and creators... so RIDE FORTH INTO THE NIGHT AND CREATE MAYHEM ... Love you beauties ????????????????????"

Headey filmed her final scenes as Cersei last July, Huffington Post reports. She, like many of her co-stars, had a very emotional reaction after wrapping for the last time. "It was [sad], yeah," she told HuffPost in February. "I thought I wasn’t going to let myself get to that point because I had the last day to get through. And then when I left and I got in the car, I broke down in tears and I was devastated."

Though she portrays a villain, Headey is still rooting for her character Cersei on GoT. "Someone has to," she told Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year.

Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres on April 14 on HBO.
