Library hosts next Repair Cafe June 25
LA GRANDE — The next Repair Cafe will run from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, in the Community Room at Cook Memorial Library, 2006 Fourth St., La Grande.
Repair cafe - fan
Repair cafe volunteer Phil Yost, right, takes a screwdriver to a vintage fan owned by Angie Smith, La Grande, on Jan. 25, 2024. To Smith's delight, Yost restored the fan to working condition.
The Repair Cafe is a gathering of community-minded volunteers with a knack for fixing stuff such as electrical appliances and gadgets, bicycles, broken furniture, knives and tools that need sharpening, even clothing in need of mending.
Residents who bring in their broken items will find help and professional advice along with "encounters and inspiration," according to a flyer for the event. The end goal is to fix things rather than throwing them away.
The Repair Cafe is open to everyone. There’s no cover charge and services are free.
The repair cafe movement began in 2009 in Amsterdam by an advocate for sustainable living. Learn more about the movement at repaircafe.org/en.
