'Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' art exhibit in York explores personal joy
The search for happiness is a personal journey and an art exhibit in York looks at how artists and visitors find it for themselves.
Gallery VII, a pop-up gallery, at 116 E. King St. in York is hosting "The Pursuit of Happiness," art exhibit until Aug. 24.
According to a press release, “drawing inspiration from the famous passage in the Declaration of Independence, the exhibition delves into themes of individuality, equality, and the universal human desire for fulfillment.”
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” a passage from the Declaration of Independence, was used to inspire the exhibit.
The participating artists bring a diverse range of perspectives and mediums, reflecting on how happiness is pursued and experienced across different cultures, backgrounds and circumstances, the release says.
Artists included in the showing are: Jeff Rose, Rob Evans, Justin Ruby, Lex Marie, Peter Danko, Amie Bantz, Brandon Carlton, Danielle Klebes, Jake Dombroski and Matt Apol.
The gallery is open on Fridays 3-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-4 p.m. There is reception for the exhibit on Aug. 2 from 6-9 p.m. The event offers a night of art, drinks, community and a chance to meet the artists.
