Linda Evangelista Opens Up About Salma Hayek Being a Stepmom to Her Son
Linda Evangelista is so happy her son August "Augie" James has a great stepmom in Salma Hayek.
In her shared Vogue cover story with fellow supermodels Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell, the 58-year-old opened up about her family dynamic with Hayek. The actress is married to Evangelista's former partner Fran?ois-Henri Pinault, who welcomed Augie with the model in 2006.
"I was sick at Thanksgiving, and Salma got on the plane with her daughter, came here, and made Thanksgiving dinner," shared Evangelista.
The actress was ready to whip up anything the ailing supermodel craved. "She asked what I wanted—it was a very eclectic wish list. I wanted her Mexican chicken with truffled potatoes. And she spent the day in the kitchen and cooked it herself. No help. The kids helped her at the end."
Evangelista continued, "She made a feast—a beautiful, beautiful meal. I had told her that I wasn't going to have Thanksgiving; I wasn't feeling well. And she said, 'Oh yes you are: I am coming.' And poof, she was here."
Evangelista also opened up about the values she's working to instill in Augie. She noted that Madison Square Garden used to give her courtside tickets for basketball games, but this eventually stopped when she wasn't working as much anymore.
"Now we buy our tickets and we sit with the fans in nosebleed—we’re fine with that. I wanted to have a very normal upbringing for my child," she said.
Evangelista also shared that she makes sure to not take advantage of her privileges as a celebrity. She detailed a moment where she and her 16-year-old son were waiting in line for a half hour at Chanel while getting a present. Augie asked, "Do you think if they recognized you we would have to be standing in this line?" She countered, "What's wrong with standing in this line? I stand in lines."
The model noted, "I do not want an entitled child."
