Lip Art is the New Nail Art
If you thought a perfect lipstick application was hard, try painting a Van Gogh on your lips. Lip art just might be the next logical step after nail art. Makeup artist Ryan Krasney does a lot of traditional, sweet, and natural bridal looks as the co-founder of Washington D.C.’s Blend Makeup Artistry, but when she’s not doing event makeup, she’s showing off her painting skills using lips as canvases. “Often, I work on the lip art projects after work in the evening with a glass of wine (through a straw, of course) with one of my two chihuahuas fighting to sit in my lap and bumping my elbows. It’s all very glamorous,” Krasney tells Yahoo Beauty. Her grandfather was a portrait artist who encouraged her to always “make a mess and fix it.”
Her first ever look was a cartoony, kitschy design inspired by the Left Shark at Katy Perry’s Super Bowl show, but since then, she’s been experimenting with ombre sunsets, china patterns, nail gems (yes, on the lips), movie motifs like Harry Potter’s Marauder’s map, and even designs to raise social awareness — like a design in support of the city of Baltimore. “I just love the challenge of working on a such a small area, it forces me to think outside of the box in an unexpected way,” Krasney says. Check out some of her coolest designs here, along with details on the products and techniques she used, in case you want to try this at home.
