'Listen. Learn': See Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas's Black Lives Matter Protest Photos and Video
On Saturday, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas attended a Black Lives Matter protest in Mammoth Lakes, California, with their friends Greg Garbo and Paris Carney, per Entertainment Tonight Canada. The couple, who are expecting their first child later this year, took along a sign that said, "White silence is violence" and posted videos and photos from their afternoon.
Jonas also posted a video of a little girl speaking to a crowd of people. She said, "Also another true statement I'd like to shout out is don't judge a book by it's cover, and that's not being taken very seriously right now." Out of the mouths of babes, people.
After a Minneapolis Black man named George Floyd was killed by a white police officer named Derek Chauvin on Memorial Day, celebrities began to donate money and match each other's donations to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Michael Jordan and his company, the Jordan Brand, committed to donating $100 million over the next 10 years.
"Jordan Brand is more than one man. It has always been a family," the statement released by Jordan's manager, Estee Portnoy reads. "We represent a proud family that has overcome obstacles, fought against discrimination in communities worldwide and that works every day to erase the stain of racism and the damage of injustice."
When Chrissy Teigen committed to donating $100,000 to support bail funds for protesters, she was met with criticism from one Twitter user who called the protesters "rioters and criminals," Teigen responded: "Ooo they might need more money then. Make it $200,000."
