Local historian and Art Center collaborating on free book publishing workshop
The Crawford County Art Center is hosting an author talk and workshop for the Ohio Open Doors history event 2-4 p.m. Saturday at 1810 E. Mansfield St., Bucyrus. The workshop is part of Ohio Open Doors, a statewide effort to bring free, history-focused events to the public.
The workshop, titled "Memoir as History: Writing and Publishing Your Stories," will focus on encouraging people to journal, write, edit and publish their own books.
“Everyone has a story and a unique perspective of living history,” CCAC Executive Director Kaylee Powers said. "We hope that folks will be able to better share their voice and contribute to our area’s rich history and understanding of each other.”
Along with getting started on writing and narrative guidance, author Mike Hocker will share tips and pitfalls of the process, including information on e-publishing, print publishing, registering the book with the Library of Congress ISBN system and copyrighting.
Hocker has written his own history of growing up in the '50s and '60s in Crawford County titled “Save the Batteries.” The book contains anecdotes and humorous foibles he experienced. A book-signing including the opportunity to purchase a copy will be available.
Reservations are not necessary but are appreciated to allow for a headcount. Call the Art Center, located on the west side of the Showplace Rental building, at 419-834-4133 and leave a message with name to reserve a seat.
