Lohud readers select Round 1 best Bacon Egg and Cheese in Westchester-Putnam
Ten years ago, we asked you all the question: Who makes the Lower Hudson Valley's best Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwich (also known as a BEC or BEnC). Last week, we introduced our Big Cheese competition, featuring the Battle of the Bacon Egg and Cheese, and asked you that question once again.
Readers came out in droves to head to our virtual poll and vote for their favorite places in Westchester and Putnam counties. We are humbled by the turn out and thank you all for participating in Round 1!
Read on for your Round 1 picks for this year's Big Cheese: Battle of the Bacon Egg and Cheese competition. And be sure check out the column on eateries that should have been included in our bracket, featuring local Instagram foodie Phil Lockwood's (aka becspk_king) ideal order.

Big Cheese Round 1 'Eggy 18': Westchester-Putnam
Battle of the 24/7 winner: Rocky's
Rocky's duked it out with Cameron's to take home the Battle of the 24/7. Rocky's (235 Saw Mill River Road, Millwood) garnered 72.7% of the vote compared to Cameron's (890 NY-35, Cross River) 27.29%. Props to Cameron's fans who were loyal until the end, but Rocky's was king.
White Plains wonder winner: Rooster's Market
Roosters (48 Gedney Way) fans really ran with this one, making up more than 88% of the vote. Martine Gourmet (186 Martine Avenue) had voters turn out, and that is still commendable.
The Croton classic winner: Croton Mini Deli
This battle had an obvious winner among two strong contenders. In the end, Croton Mini (10 Maple Street) reigned supreme with 83.6% of the vote to Harmon Deli's (358-360 Riverside Ave.) 16.4%.
Rumble in the Bronxville winner: Lange's
Both of these locations are pretty popular, but Lange's of Bronxville (94 Pondfield Road, Bronxville) took home more than two-thirds of the vote (68.9%) over Parkway Delicatessen (48 Pondfield Road) which garnered 31%.
The Somers supreme winner: Somers Super Deli
This was a tough choice for readers, but in the end, one eatery came out on top. Somers Super Deli (Lovell St, Lincolndale) stole the show with just over 55% of the vote, while The Original Froggy's (253 Route 100, Somers) came out with 44.73%.
Sleepy Hollow's Dark Horse winner: Greene County Deli
This vote got uncomfortably close. It all came down to a single vote. Greene County Deli (44 Beekman Avenue) is our Sleepy Hollow Dark Horse, with 53 votes to Justin's Deli/Cafe's (86 Beekman Ave.) 52. A hearty "well done" to fans of both eateries.
Major Mahopac winner: Route 6 Deli
Gas station BEnCs are never to be underestimated. Fans came through for Route 6 Deli (1100 US-6), with 66% of the vote, while Flory's (157, Bryant Pond Rd. at the Mobil station) earned 33.9%.
Bring it home Brewster winner: JV Bagels
JV Bagels (2505 Carmel Ave.) really toasted the competition in this case, with 80.2% of the vote. Brewster Superette (2586 Carmel Ave.) managed just under 20% of the vote, so their fans came through.
Brewster bragging rights winner: North Brewster Deli
This Brewster brawl seemed pretty one-sided, with North Brewster Deli (278 N. Brewster Rd.) scoring a whopping 807 votes for 93.95% of the vote. Brewster Hill Deli (563 Route 312) fans still took to the polls, bringing in 52 votes.
