Look Back ... to a duty for voters in Lincoln and Munford

Feb. 15—Feb. 15, 1949, in The Star: Anniston police have arrested two local teen-agers in the hope that last week's Noble Street "crime wave" will now end as a result. The youthful burglars — one 17, the other 18 — admitted looting five business establishments in one night last week. A third boy, 17, was implicated in a couple of other burglaries from two nights ago.

Feb. 15, 1999, in The Star: Voters tomorrow in Lincoln and Munford will decide the fate of two elementary schools. Proposed 5-mill property tax hikes in both school districts would enable the Talladega County Board of Education to build new schools in both towns to ease overcrowding — and help the systems to work toward meeting Gov. Siegelman's state mandate of no portable classrooms. For example, 11 of the 22 classrooms at Lincoln Elementary School are in portable classrooms, said Principal Dorothy Wright. "Our children, during severe weather, we just don't really have enough room for them to be in a safe place," said Mrs. Wright.
