Oct. 8, 1998, in The Star: Until about a week ago, Calhoun County 911 dispatchers did not have a way to specifically instruct a caller about what he or she should do when reporting that someone was having a stroke. Now, the county's 911 operators are using a comprehensive chart that will walk callers step by step through virtually any medical emergency in the crucial moments before rescue workers arrive on the scene, said Jerry Jackson, head of the county's 911 office. Operators had a chart before, but it wasn't as comprehensive, nor did it instruct them to as as many specific questions.
