We Looked into Our Crystal Ball and These Are the Biggest Food Trends of 2018
As we ring in the New Year, we’re saying hello to a bunch of exciting new trends (and finally kissing unicorn lattes goodbye). From cacio e pepe flavored everything to mushroom coffee, here’s what to look for when you’re ordering out, trolling Pinterest or snapping a food pic on Instagram.

Cacio e Pepe Everything
The O.G. pasta is one of our favorites, that’s why we’re excited restaurants are borrowing its flavors for other dishes. Just add pepper and Parm and you’ve got cacio e pepe polenta, cauliflower or yep, even mac and cheese (we’re ogling this recipe from The View From the Great Island).
Floral Flavors
Look for lavender lattes, bright pink hibiscus teas, elderflower cocktails and rose-flavored everything. Edible petals will be in, ahem, full bloom in 2018, according to trend forecasters at Whole Foods.

Tacos like You've Never Seen Them Before
Great news: Tacos officially no longer have to be savory. You’ll see them popping up on dessert and breakfast menus (oh hi, pancake tacos). Instead of classic corn tortillas, look for healthier options like seaweed or shaved jicama.
Mushrooms as a Superfood
We’re not exactly saying goodbye to matcha, but you’ll see powdered mushrooms (like reishi, chaga and cordyceps) being used to make coffee, smoothies, tea and even chocolate bars (thanks for the insight, Whole Foods). Reishi Chocolate Lattes, anyone?
Grilled Avocado
It started gaining steam in 2016, but this summer it’ll be everyone’s favorite cookout ingredient. Get the how-to from our friends at Running to the Kitchen, then try it in shrimp tacos, a caprese salad or one of these mouthwatering recipes.
Spaghetti Squash Bowls
No dishes? No problem. The trend saves time in the kitchen (because fewer things to wash, duh) and is pretty healthy, too. If you’re into the idea, check out Pinch of Yum’s Spaghetti Squash Lasagna Boats. Here are seven other genius edible bowl recipes, from eggplant to tomatoes to Portobello mushrooms.
Beer Cocktails
They’re laid-back, customizable and pretty much the perfect way to class up game day. We’re partial to the Beergroni, with Campari, gin, sweet vermouth and freshly squeezed OJ.
